This English Corner requires you to prepare a little bit. You need to bring in something that is special to you that you can share with the class. The idea is, if you have an attachment to the object, it is easier to find the English words to talk about it.
At first, the object will be hidden and students will try to guess what you have brought in by asking questions. Such as; Is it made of metal? What colour is it? Does it make a sound? Have you had it for a long time?
Once students guess what you have brought, you will bring it out and “Show” it to everyone. You will then “Tell” what the object is, where you got it, how it works and why it is important to you. You can include any details you think are interesting. You should have a story to tell about whatever it is.
Some ideas for Show and Tell. Try one of these or come up with your own.
Your Grandfather’s uniform from the War.
A very old coin
Your Taiji Medal
A pet (if it is small enough)
A Chinese Papercut your Mother made你妈妈做的剪纸
A picture of your newborn child
A souvenir from a holiday
Your favourite storybook when you were a child
These are just a few ideas, I am sure you will come up with some on your own. Remember, the goal is speaking English, so your item doesn’t have to be complicated, just something you are willing to tell us about.
